Renovation works of a significant work of Prof. Sedad Hakkı Eldem, among the leading names of the Contemporary Turkish Architecture, was implemented in 2006. Construction Department Authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Netherlands, knowing the importance of Prof. Sedad Hakkı Eldem for the Turkish Architecture, demanded the renovation works also be managed with an approach of conservation. As a reflection of this distinctive approach, a few minor additions on the building over the years out of the design were removed and returned to the original plans. Whilst the electro-mechanical equipment, the roof components were being renewed, the marble floor coatings selected and applied by Prof. Sedad Hakkı Eldem, interior doors and landscaping had been rehabilitated and preserved.
At the opening of the residence, our client, the Embassy of the Netherlands organized an exhibition of Sedad Hakkı Eldem’s works which was another example of sensitivity at the end of the Project. Despite being a small scaled project, we consider this project that we were able to implement a contemporary conservation approach with its entire aspects, as an important reference of our Project Management prac-tice due to both the mutual reliance of the client-project management relationship and its result of conserving an important sample of contemporary Turkish Architecture.
